Propagation
Hey! I have recently started watching Kaylee Ellen's YouTube adventures (which will give you major plant envy btw) and I love her whole thing. I watched one of her episodes on preserving variegation in albo monsteras (min 13:00) and it got me thinking about a few things 1.) Def. going to try propping one of my monstera cuttings in sphagnum moss because why not try? (I usually prop them all in water with great success) 2.) Will doing a wax dip on cuttings help prevent rot or other issues instead of allowing them to callus over? I am officially obsessed with finding out if this can prevent the miss of the hit/miss problem with callused over cuttings still having issues. I can't find much info online about aroids or houseplants so I'm hoping someone has experience and can help me with the following:
A.) Will wax work instead of allowing a node or cutting to callus over? If so, what is the best method for success? Any pros/cons?
B.) What type of wax/ medium is best? Everything I have read says basic unscented/ undyed tea candles are a good option. I know that for grafting paraffin grafting tape is great so I just assume basic paraffin wax is also good. But now I'm wondering what is best for aroids (are there better alternatives if I want to try this method?) Bees wax, plant based wax, and how soft does it have to be to still allow good root growth?
C.) I've only seen this waxing method widely reported online with woody stemmed plants (like fig) but I don't really cultivate these kinds of plants usually- SO.... will this work?
